Background

Brazilian Society of Crystal Growth (SBCC) belongs to the International Organization for Crystal Growth (IOCG) and was created in 1993 (see History - in Portuguese) in order to group persons working in scientific institution as well as in different fields of national economy, who are engaged in the science of crystallization and related areas.

Some scientific areas of interest of the participants are:

1.       Theories of nucleation and growth, molecular kinetics and transport processes, crystallization in viscous media e.g. polymers and glasses.

2.       Growth of bulk crystals, crystal fibers and thin layers of metals, minerals, semiconductors, superconductors, magnetic compounds.

3.       Instrumentation and techniques of crystal growth.

4.       Characterization of crystal structure and properties by physical and chemical methods.

5.       Industrial crystallization.

6.       Theory and practice of epitaxy and deposition from various phases.

7.       Multilayer heterostructures and their characterization, with emphasis on the processes of crystal growth and epitaxy.

8.       Preparation, characterization and applications of liquid crystals.
